Today I had the opportunity to have a chat with two very talented individuals. Misty Coast, a musical duo from Bergen Norway, are taking the world by storm with their musically delivered head trip. Their music will take you away to a peaceful place where the only thing that matters is getting more of their ethereal jams in your ears. I'm a fan, to say the least.
Instead of ranting all day about floating on clouds and the good vibes they produce, I'll instead jump straight into the good stuff
So you both hail from Bergen, which is one of the most picturesque places I've ever seen. What do you feel about your culture, musical interests, or personal inclinations inspired your music?
Bergen is very pretty, but it's also a very rainy city. We stay a lot indoors making music. We are very lucky to have a great live scene here, even though it's such a small city. The concert series, Perfect Sounds Forever, makes sure that all the good indie acts want to stop by and play here. Last year we saw Slowdive playing on the floor in a 200 capacity venue. When it comes to inspiration for our music, I think we get influenced by everything we have ever listened to. We also get inspired when we hear all the great music our friends create.
Leap Year. This song is far out in every way. I'd have to say it's my favorite so far. If you had to pick, what would you say is your favorite song you've made so far?
Thank you! That's a very tricky question. I think it changes all the time, but we both really like Take Off Mess Up from our debut album. We've never dared to play it live, because we're so afraid of ruining it.
I noticed you like Chain Wallet as well, and after a little googling noticed they are also from Bergen. Are there any other bands or groups from Bergen that you're both fans of?
There's SO many cool bands from Bergen and we could have mentioned twenty. Here's five bands that have released great music recently : Orion's Belte, Young Dreams, Moonpedro & Goldfish, Evigheten, and Birgitta Alida. For more new Norwegian music, check out our playlist "Misty friends of Norway" on Spotify.
Where are you planning to tour this year following the release of Melodaze?
This spring we'll be focusing on Norway, but later in 2019 we are planning on doing tours in both Japan and the UK / Europe. So far we've had to turn down offers from the US, because the visas are so expensive. Hopefully we'll soon get a chance to go there too.
How long have you two been making music together?
We started playing together in The Megaphonic Thrift back in 2007, so we've actually made music together for more than ten years now!
When was your first gig as Misty Coast? How do you feel it went?
Misty Coasts very first gig was at the Showcase Festival Vill Vill Vest in Bergen in 2016. It was in the end of September, and we had a very rare tropical summer weekend. I remember the venue was packed with people and the air was moist and warm like in a greenhouse. The gig went really great, even though we were soaked in sweat.
Okay, last question! If you could give your fans one piece of advice, what would it be?
Travel. Just do it. Also, don't waste time eating bad food.
That's all the time we have today to cover this wonderful duo. If you haven't given them a listen yet, do yourself a favor and dive deep into their music. If you have listened to their music and love it like I do, help spread the word about this game changer from Bergen. Melodaze, their latest album, will be dropping on January the 25th and is certain to be an instant classic.
